On Monday, Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius is in Berlin. The visit will contribute to the preparation of the upcoming White paper on the Future of European Defence, which should pave the way towards stronger European defence by framing and building consensus on a new, shared approach to defence in the EU. The White Paper will be instrumental to making the EU and its Member States ready for the most extreme military contingencies.

During the mission, Commissioner Kubilius will meet with the Minister of Defence of Germany, Boris Pistorius; as well as Tobias Lindner, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office; Gunther Krichbaum, Member of German Bundestag; and representatives of the German security and defence industries.

Among other topics to be discussed are boosting European defence industry, strengthening competitiveness, ramping up of defence equipment production, supporting the preparation of future defence capabilities, and military support for Ukraine as well as cooperation on the modernisation of Ukraine’s defence industry.

This first mission of the Commissioner to Germany takes place upon the invitation extended by Minister Pistorius. The Commissioner will also attend a welcoming ceremony with military honours at the Ministry of Defence, followed by a wreath-laying at the Bundeswehr Memorial.
