The European Union has launched RecFishing, an innovative digital solution to simplify and streamline the collection of data on recreational fishing catches across all EU marine areas. This initiative will help increasing our collective understanding of fishing activities and contribute to promoting the sustainable management of fish stocks.

With the introduction of new measures this January, the RecFishing platform is poised to transform how data is gathered and utilised by the 22 EU coastal nations. By simplifying how information about species and fish stocks is collected, this new platform will help authorities to make more informed decisions, ensuring the health and longevity of marine ecosystems. It will also provide scientists with robust data, improving their ability to monitor fish stock levels, driving forward initiatives supporting the sustainable use of marine resources. The platform will serve as an important tool for fostering accountability and innovation in recreational fishing practices.

RecFishing forms part of the EU’s commitment to advancing environmental stewardship and securing a thriving future for both our ocean and the communities that depend on them.
