Executive Vice-President Virkkunen is visiting Rome on Thursday to meet with members of the Italian government and hold discussions on digital innovation and tech competitiveness. During the visit, the Executive Vice-President will meet Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Executive Vice-President Virkkunen will address a joint parliamentary hearing of the Italian Chamber of Deputies and the Italian Senate, where she will outline the Commission’s priorities for strengthening Europe’s resilience and advancing the EU’s digital agenda in close partnership with Italy. She will take up the topics of digitalisation of businesses to strengthen competitiveness in her discussions with Adolfo Urso, the Minister for Enterprises, and Tommaso Foti, Minister for European Affairs.
The Executive Vice-President will also address boosting digital innovation, especially in education and research, with Anna Maria Bernini, Minister for University and Research and with Alessio Butti, Under Secretary of State for Technological Innovation. Increasing cooperation and investment in key digital technologies, ensuring that they reach citizens, businesses and researchers, is fundamental for Europe’s technological sovereignty and for a Digital Decade 2030 that works for people and businesses.
