This push to strengthen their role in EU policymaking is evident in their collective efforts, such as meeting in informal groups and co-signing opinions. Notably, their joint input for the strategic agenda for the 2024-2029 institutional cycle, provided through the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs (COSAC), further demonstrates this collaborative approach.
Subsidiarity and proportionality principles ensure that the EU acts only when it is more effective than national governments, and that its actions are proportionate to its goals. The report’s findings offer a valuable annual overview of how these fundamental democratic checks and balances are being put into practice.
