The EU Commission is consulting fans, sport participants, coaches, instructors, athletes and sport organisations, ahead of putting forward a political communication titled ‘A Strategic Vision for Sport in Europe: Reinforcing the European Sport Model’.

The communication will emphasise the significance of sport as a public good in Europe encouraging the participation in this process over a 12-week period through a consultation and a call for evidence, available now on the Have Your Say portal.

The communication will highlight sport’s crucial role as a public benefit in Europe, underscoring its impacts on public health, education, social inclusion, European unity, and economic competitiveness. As the European Sport Model encounters various challenges, public input will be vital in creating a framework to tackle these challenges and preserve, advance, and fortify the Model.

“This public consultation will help us in our next steps to protect and strengthen the integrity of the European Sport Model,” said Sport Commissioner Glenn Micallef: “The European Sport Model is rooted in strong, community-based clubs, as well as grassroots initiatives and local sport communities. Sport unites us like nothing else, and this consultation will give the people of Europe another opportunity to share their opinion on what the future of European sport should look like.”
